More Info Sept. 5 - 11 is National Suicide Prevention Week. Suicide is the third most common cause of death for 18 - 24 year olds. On, WEDNESDAY, September 8th, write (or paint, color, draw) the word "LOVE" on your wrist as a form of recognition.
Create a beautiful canvas out of that which might seem another's last resort.
Know that your compassion will spread.
...
Trust that we can replace guns and ropes and blades and bottles with hope.
Love is the movement.
This event is inspired by the powerful movement To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA). Read the vision of that movement here (www.twloha.org/vision), and, if you have an extra second or two, read the story at the bottom of the page.
If you have any suggestions for the event, or would like to have a concurrent event promoted, just send Sam Killermann a message.
UPDATES***UPDATES***UPDATES***UPDATES***UPDATES***UPDATES
-As of Tuesday 5pm EST, we've invited over 175,000 people. Can we reach 200,000 before the end of the day Tuesday? I think so. We've at least doubled every day since I started this thing.
-It's not possible for me to send messages (hasn't been since 5,000 people), so this movement is largely in your hands. Spread the word, spread the hope.
-I've seen a lot of love inspired by this event these past couple of days. We're already making a difference in a lot of lives. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
-I've also seen a lot of unfortunate comments/posts/messages. These have come in the form of people who don't take this seriously writing offensive and crass comments on the wall, and they have also come in the form of those of you who do take this seriously responding with anger, impatience, and a lack of compassion.
Please take this seriously. Further, please show compassion to those who don't. This movement is built on the idea that you can show a stranger love and inspire in him/her hope that didn't previously exist. Let's see as much of that as we can before Wednesday.
